April 21, 2003 , Madison, WI – The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) will host the National Smile Hotline, May 2nd, 2003 from 7 am – 7pm EST during the 19th Annual AACD Scientific Session, The New Face of Aesthetics. The Smile Hotline marks the official kick-off of the inaugural International Dental Awareness month, established by President Bush and the AACD as May 2003.

From 7 am – 7 pm EDT, people can call toll-free to 866.848.SMILE and receive free advice for options to cosmetically enhance their smile live from an AACD dentist. This public service is being offered by the AACD free of charge to consumers in conjunction with International Dental Awareness month, to promote the overall effects of proper oral health habits. A healthy smile is vital to the overall quality of life, as the following statistics* illustrate:

ü       85% of Americans believe an unattractive smile makes a person less appealing to the opposite sex.

ü       74% of Americans feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chances for career success.

“The effects that a smile has on a person are far-reaching, and we want the public to be aware of the wide variety of options they have today thanks to modern cosmetic dentistry.” AACD President Wynn Okuda, DMD of Honolulu, Hawaii commented.

The AACD is offering the Smile Hotline as a public service in response to the increased demand for cosmetic dental procedures in recent years. The AACD is the largest international dental organization dedicated specifically to advancing the art and science of cosmetic dentistry, and its annual convention is the world’s leading scientific session for cosmetic dentistry.

Anyone in the U.S. or Canada can call the National Smile Hotline at 866.848.SMILE from 7 am – 7 pm EST on Friday, May 2, 2003.
